Durham residents looking to connect with the past would be wise to stop in at Dolly’s Vintage on Main Street in downtown.

Unlike the typical thrift store, Dolly’s Vintage has a unique selection of vintage clothing, personally selected by the store’s owner, Jennifer Donner, from local antique collectors.

“I started this years ago, and I want to do it with things I like,” says Donner. “I can’t sell things I don’t like.”

Dolly’s Vintage offers a wide range of styles; from posh 50’s inspirations to vibrant 70’s prints.

In Dolly’s Vintage buyers will find lavish neck beadings, flowing floor length silhouettes, assorted fabric textures suitable for any season, Grecian draped gowns, flamboyant tutus, and pastel’s in every color.

The store sells women’s, men’s, and children’s vintage, antique purses, assorted accessories and several unique hair and head pieces.

A special corner of the store holds the knick knacks: everything from lunchboxes to colorful lace hand fans.

Dolly’s Vintage first opened five years ago in Bright Leaf Square, and relocated a year ago to its new location at 213 W. Main St. The new location has doubled the size of Dolly’s Vintage, and its customer base.

Donner was inspired to start collecting at a young age by both her grandmothers who danced in fashion eras that many dream of reviving.

The store is named after Donner’s grandmother Doll.

“If you are going to open a Vintage store you have to name it after your grandmother,” says Donner.
