“Break it down y’all!” a woman yelled as the Hillside Alumni Band came marching down Fayetteville Street on October 17 leading the 2010 Hillside High Homecoming Parade. The Alumni Marching Band entertained the cheering crowd and showing everyone that they still have what it take to get fans dancing.

The parade traveled more than two miles beginning at the intersection of Lawson and Fayetteville St. traveling and entertaining the crowd all the way to the Fayetteville St. and Cook Rd intersection which is the home of  Hillside High School.

Hillside H.S. Alumni represented as they do every year in their ol’ fancy school convertibles others waving from pickup trucks and still  others on foot. District Court Judge Elaine O’ Neil Bushfan, who is also a proud alumni of Hillside, was in the parade in support of the upcoming election in which she is running for the position on Superior Court Judge. There were also plenty of businesses advertised in the parade along with DJs and other artist promoting their services.

A few middle school step and dance teams were also showcasing their talents in the parades lineup one that stood out was Lowe’s Grove Middle School’s dance team and drum line. It was clear that these students had put a lot of time into doing they love and the crowd seemed to really enjoy them. Shepard Middle School Cheerleaders and The Campus Hill Cuture dancers also did their thing.

Hillside High School Marching band brought up the close of the parade with the song “Now That We’ve Found Love” by Heavy D & The Boys and then “The Breakdown.” I talked with Drum Major Ricky Alston and he said, “ It was my first parade as drum major and it was a good experience but  there were not as many people attending then in past years.

The parade was very good entertainment and help some local businesses at the same time.
