“I say photo, you say TEACH!”

I say photo, you say TEACH!”

Rapper Ronald Redmond, UNC class of 2010, chanted  to the crowd Thursday night, April 29, at the Cabaret on the ground floor of the UNC-CH Student Union. Pointing to the crowd he called, “Photo!”

“TEACH!” they responded in unison.

“Photo!” Redmond cried again

“TEACH!” the audience called back.

A rap about a photography lesson? What better way to kick off the photo exhibit celebrating the culmination of PhotoTEACH, the brainchild of UNC Homecoming Queen Carly Brantmeyer, who, with a gaggle of photo majors from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, led free on-site photo lessons for inner-city teens in Durham last month.

UNC students participating in the public service outreach effort included Diana Iglesias, Brittany Bass, Daniel Sircar, Alyssa Champion, Sam Ward, Lauren Baum, Mallory Darida, Liz Wagstaff and Chase Pickering. The 10 students they taught all participate in the Youth LIfe Foundation at Cornwallis Road.

The Durham VOICE co-sponsored the initiative, which was filmed by Carly Brantmeyer, Chase Pickering and Sam Ward. Diana Iglesias put the following video together. Enjoy!
